What I Ate in a Week: Jordan’s Food Diary

Here at Grubhub, our employees are pretty obsessed with food. Every day, we’re making sure delicious food finds its way to your door… and to ours. Say what? Correct, we too order from Grubhub (so meta).

With our “What I Ate in a Week” series, you’ll get a sneak peek into the lives of actual—never not hungry—Grubhub team members. A nice benefit that happens to come with our jobs is what we call “mealperks”—our weekly Grubhub credit. Clearly, we’re using this to get the best bites in town each and every week.

On deck, we have: Jordan, an Enterprise Sales Rep at Grubhub. Get the lowdown on his delivery highlights of the week and top ordering hacks.

Let’s meet Jordan

Hi! I’m Jordan and I have a strong passion for good, authentic food that has only been intensified since I joined Grubhub’s Corporate Team as an Enterprise Sales Rep in April. I’m a ‘New York Guy’ through-and-through: grew up in Queens, moved to Long Island in my teens, and now live in Manhattan.

I don’t take for granted how fast-paced the food scene is in NY and how often it evolves on what almost feels like a weekly basis. As a result, I flag restaurants on a custom Google map to remember all the places I want to go to. I’m up to 96 places—that’s a lot of runny eggs, medium-rare steaks, izakayas and brick-oven pizza I gotta try. Besides going out of my way to eat delicious food, what takes up the majority of my spare time is raising my food-chucking, vodka-sauce-eating, running-not-walking, smiley-faced, 14-month-old son. I look forward to when he can say “more chicken vindaloo please.”

Here are Jordan’s top delivery eats from last week…

Custom Noodle Bowl from Junzi Kitchen

Lucky for me, Junzi Kitchen is right across the street from our office. I feel like it’s rare to have a modern Chinese counter-service restaurant with great quality food. But this place is amazing. I got spring noodles, furu sesame sauce, garlic chives, pickled daikon, cilantro, chive ash and chili oil. Salty, sweet, spicy, delicious and a few steps away. What could be better?

Tuna Poke Bowl from SuPoke Bar

SuPoke Bar has become a go-to for me as well. And there’s one reason why. Unlimited. Add-ons. Besides the tuna, this bowl has more than 10 different things in it. Two different types of ponzu sauce? Yep. Seaweed Salad? Of course. Pickled Ginger?  Yeah, and so much more. If you’re feeling rambunctious, throw in all 29 add-ons.

Vegetarian Lunch Special from Indian Project

For $12.99, I had a choice of several Indian curries in a sauce of my choice. I went with Paneer Makhani. It also comes with basmati rice and naan. The coolest part: It’s a choose-your-own-adventure when it comes to spice level. I went with medium. The portion was pretty hefty—but I’m not complaining. I also took advantage of Perks and got $5 off my first order. From Indian Project.  I’ll definitely be ordering from them again at full price.

Build Your Own Sandwich at Barney Brown

I was thrilled to know that Barney Brown was available on Grubhub. They don’t have a storefront so you have to order delivery from them. You’re probably seeing a theme here as I love to customize what I’m eating and these guys have so many options.  My go-to sandwich starts with prosciutto, salami and pepperoni, then it’s topped with a liberal portion of fresh ricotta, lettuce, onion, tomato and pesto. I have this saved since it never disappoints.

Tune in next week for the latest edition of “What I Ate in a Week.” Will it make you hungry? Probably...but, we can help with that.
