What I Ate in a Week: Jarrett’s Food Diary

Here at Grubhub, our employees are pretty obsessed with food. Every day, we’re making sure delicious food finds its way to your door
and to ours. Say what? Correct, we too order from Grubhub (so meta).

With our “What I Ate in a Week” series, you’ll get a sneak peek into the lives of actual–never not hungry– Grubhub team members. A nice benefit that happens to come with our jobs is what we call “mealperks”–our weekly Grubhub stipend. Clearly, we’re using this to get the best bites in town each and every week.

On deck, we have: Jarrett, a Franchisee Specialist at Grubhub. Get the lowdown on his delivery highlights of the week and top ordering hacks.

Let’s meet Jarrett.

Hey GH fans, I’m Jarrett. I joined the Enterprise team last September as a Franchisee Specialist. Being a Chicago native, my palate is deeply inspired by the diversity of our wonderful city. In my spare time, I also love to travel. I’ve visited nearly 40 out of the 50 U.S. states. Other hobbies of mine include tirelessly scrolling the catalogs of Netflix, “researching” port wines, DJing at events around the city, and watching Bears games.

Here are my top eats from last week…

Ramen from Ajida Ramen

Living in the Windy City is certainly good for two things: food and unpredictable weather. This past weekend, I was caught in the middle of 3 thunderstorms while frolicking about the city. Since I didn’t have a coat, I unfortunately developed a case of the ‘sniffles’ (as my mom would say). On Monday morning, I woke up feeling a bit under the weather. Thankfully enough, I knew I could count on some ramen from Ajida to get me through the day.

Tacos from Taqueria Los Comales

Taco Tuesday is probably my favorite day of the week. So of course, when one of my friends suggested we do an impromptu late lunch, I could not resist. I filtered through the Grubhub app and searched for ‘tacos’ and sorted the results by ratings to find the best.

Since it was my turn to grab lunch, I knew I would be placing a Grubhub pickup order from one of my favorite places, Taqueria Los Comales. Right in the heart of Pilsen, this authentic, Mexican restaurant has served many in the community for decades.

This specific Taco Tuesday I wanted to sauce things up, so I ordered a mixed taco platter for myself. Flanco, pollo, bistec, oh my! Each taco was topped with onions, cilantro and cheese, with a side of rice and beans. The corn taco shells were warm and fluffy to say the least.

Steak from Ronny’s Steak House

A hearty meal can go a long way during any work week, good or bad. On this Thursday afternoon, I wanted a meal that would place my stomach’s fuel gauge on F. I needed the type of food that would force me into a food coma.

Think
 Think
 Think
 STEAK!

One option seemed far too perfect to pass up, Ronny’s Steakhouse. As I rarely believe something that’s too good to be true, I decided to check Instagram just before ordering to see if Ronny’s looked as good as my stomach made it sound.

With all boxes checked, I finally placed an order for pickup. Verdict: top notch eats for a reasonable price.

Falafel Salad from Roti

I indulged during my lunch breaks throughout the week
and I ended up paying for it during my weekend trip to Planet Fitness. My trainer held me hostage for nearly an hour and thirty minutes. But of course, my mind wandered to food while crawling to the finish line of my workout.

A little voice entered into my mind uttering this simple phrase: “Ro-Ti.” But seriously, I had to get home immediately to rejuvenate.

Before I hopped in my car, I decided to place my order for a Falafel Salad from Roti using the Grubhub app. I opted to use delivery since the gym was about thirty minutes away from my home.  As I was pulling into the garage, I received a call from a number I didn’t recognize. (Note: if it’s around the time your order is meant to be delivered, don’t forget that you might see an unfamiliar number pop up!) Thankfully, it was the driver with my delivery. It was my first time trying the location that was in my neighborhood so I was excited to see if my work lunch favorite could duplicate the hype. The hype remained. The falafel, couscous, and hummus mix is unparalleled.

Tune in next week for the latest edition of “What I Ate in a Week.” Will it make you hungry? Probably...but, we can help with that.
