What I Ate in a Week: Brian’s Food Diary

Here at Grubhub, our employees are pretty obsessed with food. Every day, we’re making sure delicious food finds its way to your door….and to ours. Say what? Correct, we too order from Grubhub (so meta).

With our “What I Ate in a Week” series, you’ll get a sneak peek into the lives of actual — never not hungry — Grubhub team members. A nice benefit that happens to come with our jobs is what we call “mealperks” — our weekly Grubhub stipend. Clearly, we’re using this to get the best bites in town each and every week.

On deck, we have: Brian, manager of growth marketing and mass media. Get the lowdown on his delivery highlights of the week and top ordering hacks.

Let’s meet Brian:

Hello! I’m Brian and I’ve been at Grubhub for two and a half years on the growth marketing team. I live in Noho/Bowery (or borderline East Village) with my fiancĂ©, Phil <3, and aside from traveling, our favorite thing to do is trying new restaurants. We try not to repeat the same restaurants more than twice so we can experience as much new food as possible.

During this ‘food diary’ process I learned something about myself
I learned that I have little self-control when it comes to taking photos of food upon arrival. Because of this, most of my photos are courtesy of the restaurants that I ordered from!

And here are my top delivery eats from last week

Japanese, Okonomiyaki

Okonomiyaki from DokoDemo:

I love any type of food from an Izakaya, also known as a Japanese Gastropub, and especially Okonomiyaki. Okonomiyaki is hard to describe, but it’s amazing and one of my favorite foods. It’s a savory type of pancake made with cabbage, filling or toppings of your choice, and drizzled with the most delicious style of barbeque sauce you will probably ever taste. So, when DokoDemo opened in my neighborhood and started serving Okonomiyaki, I needed to order it.

Pizza, Prince Street, Sicilian

Prince Perfection Pie from Prince St. Pizza:

It truly does not get any better than Prince St. Pizza in Manhattan. However, the line is typically INSANELY long (people have caught on to how incredible it is). Pro tip: skip the line and order on Grubhub. Once you try the Prince Perfection Pie — a square pie reminiscent of a Sicilian, with “secret sauce,” you will understand the obsession.

Brussels Sprouts, Salad

Brussels Sprout Chicken Caesar from Blank Slate:

I go through so many phases of ordering lunch during the week. Typically I order the same thing over and over again until I become so sick of it and can’t stand it anymore. Enter my new obsession this week: the brussels sprouts chicken caesar salad from Blank Slate Coffee + Kitchen. Spoiler alert: this looks like it’ll be my express reorder go-to next week.

Pad See Ew, Thai

Pad See Ew Lui’s Thai Food:

Lui’s Thai is my go-to, fail safe, always there for me, arrives in five minutes, once-per-week restaurant for ordering dinner. I express reorder the Pad See Ew with chicken — extra spicy — and sometimes add an extra egg if I’m feeling fancy. Fun fact: After ordering delivery from Lui’s Thai at least a dozen times, I learned that the restaurant is located 100 feet from my building
maybe I’ll switch my next order to pick up!

Tune in next week for the latest edition of “What I Ate in a Week.” Will it make you hungry? Probably...but, we can help with that.
