Here’s What’s in Season: The Ideal Pies to Order During Fall

From summer to winter, pies are the perfect, year-round dessert. But as the seasons change, so should your pie selection. These baked beauties are best when filled with hyper-seasonal ingredients. And whether you want just a slice for yourself or an entire pie to feed the whole family, skip the messy baking and order in.

Think back to when you saw peach pies galore in the warm, summer months…it’s not just a coincidence, that stone fruit thrives from mid-May through August.

As autumn is in full swing in plenty parts of the country — with crisp temps and falling leaves — there’s never been a better time to cozy up and order in a welcoming fall pie.

Exactly which pies should you be ordering during the fall months, you ask? Read on to find our list of in-season autumnal pies.

Sweet Potato

Pie, Sweet Potato

Fun fact: the sweet potato has no relation to the actual potato; it’s part of the morning glory family, which is mainly comprised of plants and herbs. This orange-hued veggie is in peak season from October-December and makes for one creamy, sweet pie.

Pumpkin

Pie, Pumpkin Pie

This quintessential fall dessert is strikingly similar to the sweet potato pie, with a few differences. It’s slightly darker in coloring, has a pop of spices (like cinnamon and nutmeg), and is often topped with a healthy amount of whipped cream.

Apple

Apple, Pie, Pies

There’s a reason Apple Pie was ordered 3-times more than any other type of pie in the last few months. Ready-to-bake apples thrive from September-October, so order in a warm apple pie before they’re out of season. (And yes, order vanilla ice cream on the side…à la mode is always a good idea.)

Pecan

Pecans, Pie

Pecan nuts begin falling from September all the way through November. So they will be f-r-e-s-h when they hit the top of this indulgent, chewy pie. Ideal for those with a real sweet tooth.
