Here at Grubhub, our employees are pretty obsessed with food. Every day, weâre making sure
delicious food finds its way to your doorâŠ.and to ours. Say what? Correct, we too order from Grubhub (so meta).
With our âWhat I Ate in a Weekâ series, youâll get a sneak peek into the lives of actual â never not hungry â Grubhub team members. A nice benefit that happens to come with our jobs is what we call âmealperksâ â our weekly Grubhub stipend. Clearly, weâre using this to get the best bites in town each and every week.
On deck, we have: Joel, an Operations Specialist on our Market Operations team. Get the lowdown on his delivery highlights of the week and top ordering hacks.
Letâs meet Joel.
Hey whatâs going on my name is Joel, I work in operations for our companyâs corporate sector, and have been with Grubhub just under three years. I reside in what I consider to be the most beautiful neighborhood in BrooklynâBedford Stuyvesantâwith my two roommates, and one very senior cat. On the weekends, Iâm typically hanging around with friends, either catching a show, or trying a new restaurant in the neighborhood. I can also be found in the gym sweating for my life, or at my local Brazilian Jiu Jitsu spot practicing my combat skills. Having said all of this, itâs clear that I can work up quite the appetite which is perfect for a food diary…right?
And here are my top delivery eats from last weekâŠ
Pernil Platter from Sophieâs Cuban Cuisine:
Sophieâs is unreal. It took me some time to realize this, but while the Cubano sandwich is the main draw, itâs the entree section that really holds it down. I forgot to eat breakfast (donât make that face, it happens), so when lunch time came around, I was more than ready. Iâve been going to the location by our office for sometime, so Iâm pretty sure they know me quite well. I have my pickup order on lock: a steamed veggie medley, with a slice of avocado, and their version of pernil guisado (roasted pork). What is crazy is that this is all on a bed of rice with marinated onions, but you canât see that because the angels at Sophieâs have no idea what portion control is, and will always overload you with food. (Ideal for when you want seconds later.) Seriously, I love them. Since Sophieâs is always crazy busy…follow my lead and order ahead for pickup. Watch the haters eye you up as you slip to the front of the line to grab your food.
BBQ Beef from BOI Noodle House:
Growing up, my best friend was Vietnamese, so my first banh mi came in the sixth grade. Shortly after that, I experienced home cooked pho. I loved it so much that his mom couldnât get rid of me. Whatâs so crazy is how close to those childhood memories I can get by hitting up BOI Noodle House. Theyâre an extremely tasty, yet totally affordable option…so when I spend my mealperks I really feel like Iâm flexing hard. Iâm really into their BBQ Beef dish, as it was a staple in my best friendâs house during the summertime. I opt for the vermicelli noodle/salad option, and tack on an order of spring rolls. They fry them all the way through so the crunch is really next level. Also, I order this so much from this spot itâs on my recent orders list…that means I can express reorder this dish in no time and set the pickup for later (best feature TBH). In the future, I think the robots will do this for me.
Crab BLT from The Crabby Shack:
There is usually a long line at The Crabby Shack in Brooklyn…so pickup is the way to go. What you see depicted is their amazing Crab BLT with avocado. I was also crazy hungry today, so I tacked on a lobster roll too. I have to say…the BLT is still my favorite, but the lobster roll ainât too shabby.
